The Johann Strauss Ensemble specializes in Viennese Music from Mozart to Strauss, and opera and operetta to Wienerlied. It was founded in 1987 by violinist and conductor Peter Rohloff, who at first modelled the group after Johann Strauss' first orchestra of only fourteen musicians. Later the ensemble expanded or contracted as the need arose, featuring a String Quartet, a Schrammel Quartet, larger ensembles (Septets, Octets, etc.), a Salon Orchestra, and a Symphony Orchestra. The Johann Strauss Ensemble has presented concerts in many venues across the Lower Mainland of B.C., including fundraising events (such as the annual "Music from Austria" concerts in support of the S.O.S. Children's Village of B.C.). The group also plays for private functions, weddings, banquets, etc.
